Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how Sonara works for small businesses.

What is an AI receptionist?

An AI receptionist answers your business phone with conversational voice, handles common requests like booking or hours, and escalates when a human is needed — so you miss fewer calls without hiring full-time phone staff.

How does Sonara book appointments?

You set hours, services, and either named staff or open capacity. On a call, Sonara checks availability, confirms the details with the caller, then saves the booking so it shows in your calendar and dashboard.

Do I need a new phone number?

After checkout you can buy a local or toll-free number through Sonara, or forward an existing line. Calls reach the AI according to the rules you set.

What happens if the AI can’t help?

It can take a message, offer to transfer to your forward number, or follow the behavior rules you configure in the AI script.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. New accounts get a 7-day free trial with a card on file so you can test answering and booking before you are charged.

How much does it cost?

Starter is $100/mo with 400 AI minutes. Pro is $250/mo with 1,200 AI minutes. If you hit the cap, new callers hear a short message instead of a dead line. Healthcare practices should contact us — that is not self-serve.

Is Sonara HIPAA compliant?

Standard plans are for general business use. A Business Associate Agreement is available after review for clinics that need it. Contact us before routing regulated health information.

Will callers know it’s AI?

Sonara is designed to sound like a calm front-desk person. You control the greeting and name. Transparency requirements vary by place — you can include a short disclosure in your greeting if required.

How long does setup take?

Most teams create an account, pick a plan, attach a number, and set business hours and services in under an hour. You can refine the AI script later.
